Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probabilities of the event occurring. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts as new information and opinions emerge, potentially offering more accurate predictions as the event approaches. It's common to see differences in implied probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more traders believe Ilham Bakhshaliev will win, the price of shares representing his victory will increase, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the match's potential result.
