Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets allow traders to directly assess probabilities. It's common to see this market's implied probabilities diverge from initial sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges and more traders participate. Analyzing these differences can reveal where the crowd believes sportsbooks may be mispricing the event, offering potential value for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Price fluctuations are driven by supply and demand; if more traders believe an outcome is likely, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system that reflects collective intelligence. The current market reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on Polymarket.
