Polymarket and Kalshi can show different prices on the same event due to variations in liquidity, user base composition, and trading mechanics. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Differences may also reflect timing lags, as traders on one platform may react to breaking news before the other catches up. Lower-volume platforms sometimes exhibit wider spreads and slower price discovery, while larger venues benefit from deeper order books and faster arbitrage. These gaps typically narrow as the event approaches and information becomes more widely distributed.
Key catalysts include roster changes, injury announcements affecting star players, recent team performance trends, and head-to-head historical matchups. Betting line movement at major sportsbooks often precedes prediction market shifts, so monitoring those can signal incoming repricing. Weather conditions, travel schedules, and rest advantages may also influence trader sentiment. Breaking news about player availability or coaching decisions typically triggers sharp price moves, as does any unexpected development in the days leading up to game time.
