Prediction market odds often reflect sharper, more granular insights than traditional sportsbook lines because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and can price in nuanced outcomes. While sportsbooks may offer simpler win/loss spreads, this market lets participants wager on detailed in-game scenarios, potentially revealing gaps or biases not visible in broader bookmaker odds. The difference can also hinge on liquidity — prediction markets may show wider fluctuations when volume is low.
On Polymarket and Kalshi, prices can diverge due to varying user bases, trading volumes, and market design nuances. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. For example, one platform might attract more esports-focused traders who price in team form and patch changes, while another could reflect broader, less specialized betting patterns. Differences in available trading tools and liquidity also shape how quickly prices adjust to new information, leading to temporary mismatches between the two venues.
