Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs. If prediction market odds diverge significantly from sportsbook odds, it may indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither is guaranteed to be correct. It's always useful to consider both when evaluating the potential outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are bought for a specific outcome, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by supply and demand, and the market efficiently aggregates the collective intelligence of its participants. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds reflect the most up-to-date information and sentiment.
