Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance their risk and ensure profit, while this market relies on individuals wagering their own capital based on their assessments of the likely outcome. Therefore, discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or analytical approaches. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines as new information becomes available and participants adjust their predictions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective forecast. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market is driven by supply and demand; increased buying pressure raises the price, while increased selling pressure lowers it, ultimately determining the perceived likelihood of each outcome in the Palicova vs Feistel match.
