Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks may set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can express that view by trading on Polymarket, driving the market odds closer to their collective assessment. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of real-world information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, indicating growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. The market dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, reflecting the aggregated predictions of all participants. This creates a constantly updating assessment of the match’s potential result.
