Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. It's common to see prediction market probabilities shift as new information becomes available, potentially leading to odds that diverge from, or converge with, sportsbook offerings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts accordingly, providing a dynamic assessment of the event's likelihood. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand for shares on Polymarket.
