Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. It’s common to see differences emerge as new information becomes available or as different groups of people interpret the same information in varying ways. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market's pricing is driven by the collective wisdom of traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting a growing belief in its likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Kuzmenko vs. Pohonov match.
