Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the views of many individuals. It's common to see differences emerge, particularly as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. Examining these differences can be insightful, but it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees, of the outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price isn't determined by a central authority but rather by the supply and demand of shares traded by users.
