Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting percentages and promotional offers, while this market relies purely on individuals wagering their own capital based on their assessment of the likely outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, analytical approaches, or simply variations in opinion. It's common to see this market offer odds that are more aligned with informed analysis than those found at standard sportsbooks, though this isn't always the case.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds reflect the collective intelligence of those actively trading on Polymarket.
