Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price outcomes differently. Sportsbooks set odds based on statistical models and aim to balance their book for profit, while prediction markets derive prices from live trader consensus—what participants collectively believe will happen. This market reflects aggregated trader conviction rather than a bookmaker's calculated spread. Prediction market prices often move faster in response to breaking news or sentiment shifts, since thousands of independent traders adjust positions continuously. Both venues serve different purposes: sportsbooks offer fixed odds for wagering, while prediction markets reveal real-time crowd forecasts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome has a price between 0 and 1, representing the crowd's estimated likelihood. When traders buy shares in an outcome, its price rises; when they sell, it falls. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to new information. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects current liquidity and trading interest, tightening when volume is high and widening during quieter periods.
This market resolves around Aug 2, 2026, once the match concludes and the outcome is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winning outcome is determined by which team scores the first goal during regulation play. Once the event is confirmed through reliable sources, the market settles automatically and traders receive payouts based on their positions. Early resolution is possible if one team is eliminated or the match is officially cancelled before kickoff, though standard resolution follows the final whistle.
Several catalysts can shift this market significantly before kickoff. Team news—injuries to key forwards, goalkeeper changes, or tactical adjustments—often triggers repricing as traders reassess scoring potential. Lineup announcements typically cause sharp moves, especially if a prolific striker is ruled out. Weather conditions and pitch reports can influence early-game dynamics and scoring likelihood. Pre-match commentary from analysts and social media sentiment may also sway trader positioning. As match time approaches, late-breaking developments like unexpected absences or formation changes tend to generate the most volatile price swings.
