Prediction markets and sportsbooks price events differently because they serve different audiences and operate under different constraints. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and manage risk, often building in a margin. Prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi rely on trader consensus, where prices reflect aggregated belief rather than a house edge. This can make prediction market odds more responsive to new information and less subject to promotional pricing. However, sportsbooks may offer tighter spreads on high-volume events, while prediction markets excel at pricing niche or longer-dated outcomes.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Differences in user base, fee structures, and market design can cause the same event to trade at different odds across venues. Polymarket and Kalshi may attract traders with different risk tolerances, information sets, or time horizons. Liquidity concentration also matters: if one platform has significantly more volume, its price may move faster and reflect fresher information. Additionally, each platform's rules around order types, leverage, and settlement can influence how traders position, leading to temporary or persistent price gaps that create arbitrage opportunities for alert traders.
Key catalysts include roster changes, injury announcements, recent team performance streaks, and head-to-head historical trends. Weather conditions on game day can significantly impact KBO play, especially wind direction and temperature. Betting action from sharp money or large syndicates often moves prices ahead of public awareness. Media coverage, expert predictions, and social sentiment can also shift trader positioning. Close to game time, late-breaking lineup news or bullpen availability typically triggers sharp repricing. Monitor team social media and KBO official channels for updates that could reshape market expectations.
