Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi for this market, often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while prediction markets aim for accurate probability assessments. Therefore, you may see discrepancies between the two. However, both prediction markets and sportsbooks ultimately aim to predict the same real-world outcome – the winner of the KBO baseball matchup – and both can be valuable sources of information for informed decision-making.
Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts a different user base with varying expertise and risk tolerance, leading to differing opinions on the probabilities. Trading volume also plays a role; lower volume on one platform can result in greater price volatility. Furthermore, the specific market design and fee structures on each platform can influence trading behavior and, consequently, the observed prices for this market. These differences create opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from price discrepancies across venues.
