Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets aggregate the collective beliefs of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. For this market, prediction market prices may respond faster to breaking news, injury reports, or lineup changes than sportsbooks, which adjust more cautiously to manage liability. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus differs and highlight potential value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares representing each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Prices fluctuate based on the ratio of shares held in the liquidity pool, meaning larger trades move the odds more significantly than smaller ones. Traders profit by buying low and selling high, or by holding shares until resolution. The continuous pricing mechanism ensures real-time discovery of fair value as new information emerges.
This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, after the conclusion of the first five innings. The outcome is determined by which team holds the lead when the fifth inning ends, verified against credible public sources including official MLB records and broadcast data. Once the result is confirmed and finalized, traders' positions settle automatically based on the correct outcome. Early resolution may occur if one team is mathematically eliminated before the fifth inning concludes.
Several catalysts can shift odds before this market resolves. Lineup announcements, starting pitcher confirmations, and recent team performance trends influence early-game expectations. Weather conditions at game time, such as wind direction or temperature, affect ball carry and scoring potential. Injury updates or unexpected roster changes can alter perceived strength. Early game momentum—runs scored, defensive plays, or pitcher effectiveness in the first few innings—will drive sharp repricing as traders react to live action and adjust their positions accordingly.
