Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If a significant difference emerges, arbitrage opportunities may arise for traders. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporate information and analysis faster than sportsbooks, especially for niche events or rapidly evolving situations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous, decentralized exchange. Traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes, and the price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of its probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuations are driven by supply and demand, meaning that if more people believe Michael Zheng will win, the price of shares representing his victory will increase. This creates a dynamic pricing mechanism that adapts to new information and changing sentiment.
