Frequently asked questions

Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price outcomes differently because they operate on distinct mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets derive prices from continuous trader demand and supply. This market reflects what thousands of independent traders believe will happen, often incorporating real-time information faster than sportsbooks adjust their lines. Comparing this market's implied probability to a sportsbook's odds can reveal value opportunities, though both should align reasonably closely on major events like first-goal outcomes.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the aggregate belief of all participants; as more traders buy one outcome, its price rises and the competing outcome falls. Prices update continuously throughout the trading window, so early movers can capture edges before consensus hardens. The mechanism ensures transparent, friction-free pricing without intermediaries setting fixed lines.

This market resolves around Aug 2, 2026, once the match concludes and the first goal is verified. The outcome is confirmed through credible public reporting of the event result. Traders who correctly predicted which team would score first receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution window typically closes shortly after final whistle, allowing rapid settlement and capital redeployment to subsequent markets.

Team news—injuries to key strikers or defensive players—can shift odds significantly, as can recent form and head-to-head records. Pre-match lineup announcements often trigger sharp moves as traders gain concrete information. Weather conditions and venue factors may also influence scoring patterns and early-game tactics. Social media sentiment, expert predictions, and late-breaking tactical changes can drive volatility. Close to kickoff, final odds typically stabilize as uncertainty collapses and the crowd converges on a consensus probability.
