Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individuals. If a significant number of people believe one team will win, the price will move in that direction, potentially creating discrepancies with sportsbook lines. These differences can arise from varying information sources, analytical approaches, or simply differing opinions among bettors and market participants. It's common to see prediction markets offer a more accurate forecast, especially as the event approaches.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more people buy contracts for a particular team, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of victory. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The platform uses a market maker system to ensure liquidity and facilitate trading, allowing participants to easily enter and exit positions. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to rapidly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities accordingly.
