Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set odds to balance liability and extract margin, while prediction markets aggregate trader beliefs through continuous price discovery. This market may show higher or lower implied probability than traditional sports betting sites, depending on whether informed traders on Polymarket view the outcome differently than sportsbook oddsmakers. Comparing both can reveal valuable discrepancies for sharp bettors.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current market reflects the collective assessment of all participants, with prices adjusting in real time as new information emerges or trading volume shifts. Higher prices indicate stronger belief in that outcome, while lower prices suggest lower perceived probability. Liquidity and order flow dynamics influence how quickly prices respond to news or match developments.
