Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different mechanisms. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets let traders freely price outcomes based on their beliefs. This market's odds emerge from supply and demand among participants rather than a bookmaker's calculation. Over time, prediction markets tend to aggregate dispersed information efficiently, sometimes outperforming traditional sportsbooks at forecasting. Comparing this market's price to major sportsbook lines can reveal where consensus differs and highlight potential value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Shares representing each outcome trade continuously, and the current price reflects the cumulative belief of all active traders. As new information emerges or sentiment shifts, the price adjusts instantly. The top outcome currently reflects market consensus, and you can enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes, paying the spread between bid and ask prices set by the liquidity pool.
