Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different pricing mechanisms. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets aggregate trader beliefs through continuous price discovery. This market's odds may move faster or slower than sportsbook lines depending on trader conviction and liquidity. Comparing the two can reveal where the crowd sees value relative to professional oddsmakers, though neither is inherently more accurate.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares tied to each possible outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price reflects the collective probability estimate of all participants at any given moment. As new information surfaces—such as player form, injury reports, or head-to-head history—traders adjust their positions, moving the odds in real time. Liquidity and trading volume influence how quickly prices respond to shifts in market sentiment.
