Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets aggregate beliefs from traders risking real capital. For this market, prediction market prices may react faster to breaking news or player updates, since traders can instantly adjust positions. Comparing the two can reveal where professional oddsmakers and the broader trading community disagree on the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the collective assessment of all active traders; as new information emerges or sentiment shifts, the odds update in real time. Higher-priced outcomes are considered more likely by the market, while lower prices suggest lower perceived probability. This continuous price discovery mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to changing conditions throughout the event window.
