Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set odds to balance liability and extract a margin, while prediction markets aggregate trader beliefs through continuous price discovery. This market's odds represent crowdsourced expectations from traders who have real capital at stake, which can sometimes offer a contrarian view to conventional sportsbook lines. Comparing the two can reveal where the broader market consensus differs from professional oddsmakers on this match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares representing each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the cumulative trades placed by the community, with odds updating dynamically as new positions are entered. Traders profit by correctly predicting the match result, and the market price converges toward the true probability as more information and capital flow in. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures the market remains responsive to new developments and trader conviction.
