If the game is postponed, this market will remain open until the game has been completed. If the game is canceled entirely, with no make-up game, this market will resolve to "Neither". This market refers only to the outcome within the first 90 minutes of regular play plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shoot-outs are excluded. The primary resolution source for this market is the official statistics of the event as recognized by the governing body or event organizers. However, if the governing body or event organizers have not published final match statistics within 2 hours after the event's conclusion, data from Flashscore may be used; if Flashscore data is unavailable, data from Sofascore may be used; if neither is available, a consensus of credible reporting may be used instead. Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action on both sides, while this market’s odds are driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant number of traders believe Italy is more likely to score first, the odds will shift accordingly, potentially diverging from sportsbook lines. It's common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast event outcomes than traditional odds, though discrepancies can exist due to differing information and incentives.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in Italy to score first, the price of those shares increases, and the implied probability rises. Conversely, selling shares decreases the price and probability. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
This market resolves around Sep 9, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on which team scores the first goal in the Italy vs. New Zealand match. The official match result, as reported by recognized sports authorities, will be used to determine the winning outcome. Traders who hold shares in the correct outcome will be entitled to a payout based on the final market price at the time of resolution.
Several factors could influence the price of shares in this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Italy or New Zealand would likely cause significant movement. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before the match could also shift trader sentiment. Even broader factors, such as weather conditions expected on match day, or public perception of each team's recent performance, could contribute to price fluctuations. Any information that alters the perceived probability of either team scoring first has the potential to move this market.
