Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, incorporating a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it may indicate differing opinions or information available to each group. It's common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast event outcomes, especially when a large volume of trading occurs.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a 'yes' share (Italy or Japan scores first) represents the probability of that outcome occurring, while the price of a 'no' share (neither team scores first) represents the probability of that outcome. The total value of all shares outstanding always sums to 1, ensuring a probabilistic representation of the event's possible outcomes.

This market resolves around Sep 12, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome will be determined by which team scores the first goal in the Italy vs. Japan match. If neither team manages to score during the match, the 'neither team' outcome will be considered the result. Resolution will be based on official match data and verified against credible public sources to ensure accuracy and fairness for all traders participating in this market.

Several factors could influence the trading activity and price movement in this market. Any news regarding team lineups, player injuries, or changes in coaching strategies could significantly impact the perceived probabilities. Unexpected weather conditions or controversies surrounding the match could also introduce volatility. Furthermore, significant shifts in public opinion, as reflected by betting patterns or expert analysis, could drive changes in the market price. Major events leading up to the match, such as pre-game interviews or tactical previews, may also contribute to price fluctuations.
