Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which may be influenced by factors like house bias or public perception. Sportsbooks typically set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own analysis. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Examining these differences can reveal where the crowd believes sportsbooks may be mispricing the likelihood of various outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current price indicates what traders are willing to pay for a share representing a particular result in the Istanbul 3 doubles match.
