Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals willing to put their own capital at risk, potentially leading to a more accurate assessment of probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of both markets. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the market’s collective belief about the probability of that outcome occurring. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current price indicates the implied probability, and traders aim to profit by identifying discrepancies between their own assessment and the market’s price.
