Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by participants’ beliefs about the outcome. If prediction market participants strongly disagree with the sportsbook’s assessment, you may see a divergence in the probabilities implied by each. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to different probabilities than those offered by sportsbooks.
On Opinion, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the collective belief of the traders regarding the probability of that outcome occurring. On Opinion, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding contract will rise. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment about the Astros-Athletics game.
