Comparing prediction market odds to sportsbook odds reveals how public sentiment differs from professional oddsmakers. Often, prediction markets can offer a more accurate forecast, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, incentivizing participants to provide informed predictions. However, sportsbooks have sophisticated models and access to specialized information. Discrepancies between the two can highlight areas where the market believes sportsbooks are over or underestimating certain possibilities. This market, like others, can be analyzed against external sources to gauge relative confidence.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of participants.
