On Polymarket, traders set the odds by directly bidding on the probability of various outcomes, while Kalshi utilizes a different mechanism. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. This difference in market structure can lead to price discrepancies, even when both platforms are tracking the same event. Furthermore, varying user bases and information access on each platform contribute to differing opinions and, consequently, different prices. The volume traded on each platform also plays a role; higher volume generally indicates greater confidence in the price, potentially widening the gap if one platform has significantly more activity than the other.
Several factors could influence this market before the game concludes. Unexpected news regarding key player injuries on either the Hawai'i or Wyoming team would likely cause significant price movement. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if they suggest adverse playing conditions, could also impact predictions. Late-breaking news about coaching strategies or team morale could also shift market sentiment. Furthermore, large volume trades on either Polymarket or Kalshi could indicate informed traders taking positions based on new information, potentially triggering a cascade of further trades.
