Prediction market odds, like those found on Kalshi and Predict, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the differing incentives of participants. Sportsbooks aim to profit from setting lines, while prediction market participants are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. This market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who have ‘skin in the game.’ While sportsbooks may adjust lines based on betting volume and public perception, this market's price is directly driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Therefore, this market can sometimes offer a more accurate signal of the true probability of an event.
Kalshi and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Kalshi and Predict may diverge due to several factors, including differing user bases, trading fees, and market-making activity. Each platform attracts a unique set of participants with varying levels of expertise and information. Additionally, the liquidity and order flow on each platform can influence price discovery. Currently, Kalshi currently favors the Hanwha Eagles, while Predict leans toward the Kia Tigers.
