Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade based on their own information and analysis. If sportsbooks initially underestimate a team's chances, the odds on Polymarket may move in the opposite direction as more informed traders enter the market. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to information, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within each venue.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of participants. The current price indicates what the market believes is the likelihood of the specified result in the Guangzhou doubles match.
