Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, and can sometimes differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like marketing or house biases into their lines, while this market is driven purely by traders' willingness to buy or sell based on their own analysis. It's common to see discrepancies, especially early in the market's lifecycle, as prediction markets tend to converge towards a more accurate probability as more information becomes available and trading volume increases.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders can buy and sell shares representing their belief about the outcome of the Guangzhou doubles match. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts as traders exchange positions, creating a real-time assessment of the event's likelihood. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, indicating greater confidence in that result.
