Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can take the opposite position, driving the prediction market odds closer to their collective assessment. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of money has been traded on Polymarket.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective expectation. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with traders expressing their views through their trading activity. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information and sentiment.
