Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to collectively express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy emerges between this market and sportsbook odds, arbitrage opportunities may arise for informed traders. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither guarantees the actual result of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of shares is determined by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the match. The current price reflects the collective assessment of all traders participating in this market.
