Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides. However, this market allows anyone to trade, and the price can shift as new information emerges or public sentiment changes. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced the spread, they can take positions that drive the prediction market odds in a different direction. It's common to see prediction markets converge towards the 'true' probability as the event approaches.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes of the Georgia Southern vs Jacksonville State spread. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as they profit from correctly anticipating the result. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the market price adjusts, providing a dynamic assessment of the likely outcome. The current volume indicates the level of interest and confidence in the spread.
