Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, and can sometimes differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides of a bet, while this market is driven purely by individuals expressing their beliefs about the likely outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there's significant public interest or disagreement about the players' chances. Analyzing these differences can provide valuable insights into market sentiment and potential value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; there are no external factors influencing the pricing mechanism on Polymarket.
