Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when there's significant public interest or disagreement about the likely winner. It’s common to see prediction markets move more quickly to incorporate new information and reflect collective wisdom, compared to sportsbook odds which may be slower to adjust.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each candidate winning the Genoa mayoral race. The price of these shares dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular candidate, the price increases, indicating growing confidence in their chances. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price. This creates a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each outcome, driven entirely by the collective actions of market participants.
This market resolves around Sep 14, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the official results of the Genoa mayoral election are verifiable from credible public reporting. The candidate who receives the most votes, as declared by the official election authorities, will be considered the winner and determine the settlement of this market. The resolution will be based on publicly available data and will not rely on any subjective interpretation or external judgment calls. This ensures a transparent and objective outcome for all traders.
Several signals or events could significantly influence this market before Sep 14, 2026. Major shifts in public opinion, as reflected in polling data, would likely cause price adjustments. Significant endorsements from influential political figures or organizations could also move the market. Unexpected events during the campaign, such as debates or controversies, could also impact trader sentiment. Finally, any news related to the candidates' platforms, fundraising efforts, or personal lives could trigger changes in the odds as traders reassess the probabilities of each outcome.
