Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market is driven by individuals betting with their own capital. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing the implied probabilities from both sources can reveal interesting insights into public perception and potential value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a specific exact score. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; there is no central authority setting the odds.
