Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probability of each outcome. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, as prediction markets often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants. However, it's not uncommon to see convergence between the two, especially as the event draws closer and more information becomes available. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share directly reflects the market's assessment of the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust accordingly, creating a dynamic and responsive market. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means the price can fluctuate significantly based on shifts in sentiment and perceived likelihood of various results, offering opportunities for informed traders.
