Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds to ensure profitability, which can skew the implied probabilities. This market, however, is driven by the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately assess the probability of an outcome. As such, the implied probabilities in this market may differ from sportsbook odds, potentially offering a more accurate assessment of the event's likely result based on crowd-sourced information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest information and collective intelligence of participants.
