Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price outcomes using different mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds based on internal models and risk management, then adjust them to balance their book. This market, by contrast, derives prices from live trader supply and demand—essentially a crowdsourced consensus. Because prediction markets reward accuracy over the long term, many traders believe they reflect genuine probability estimates more closely than sportsbook lines, which prioritize profit margins. Comparing the two can reveal where public opinion diverges from professional oddsmakers' views.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—which team scores first—has its own price contract, and the sum of all outcome prices equals one dollar. As traders buy or sell shares, the price adjusts algorithmically to reflect new information and shifting conviction. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures that prices stay responsive to breaking news, team lineups, and other factors that influence scoring likelihood.
This market resolves around Jul 25, 2026, once the match concludes and the first goal is officially recorded. The outcome is confirmed against credible public reporting from the league or official match records. Whichever team's name appears on the scoresheet as the first goal scorer determines the winning outcome. Traders holding shares in that outcome receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Early resolution is possible if the match is abandoned or postponed beyond a specified cutoff.
Several catalysts can shift odds before kickoff. Team news—injuries to key strikers, lineup announcements, or tactical changes—often triggers sharp repricing. Recent form, head-to-head history, and home-field advantage all influence trader positioning. Weather conditions and pitch quality can affect attacking play. As the match start time approaches, late money and final sentiment adjustments typically increase volatility. During the match itself, early chances, possession patterns, and goalkeeper saves generate real-time trading activity. Any unexpected delay or postponement may also prompt market adjustments.
