Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly diverges from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. Analyzing these differences can offer valuable insights into where the crowd believes the true probability lies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current volume indicates significant interest from traders.
