Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets aggregate the collective beliefs of traders risking real capital on outcomes. This market aggregates thousands of individual trades, which can surface information faster than traditional oddsmakers update their lines. Comparing this market's implied probabilities to major sportsbook spreads can reveal where the two communities disagree on team strength and tournament likelihood.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome share trades between 0 and 1, where the price directly represents the implied probability of that team winning the championship. When you buy shares, you move the price up; when you sell, it moves down. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures transparent, friction-free discovery of what the market believes about each competitor's chances.
Several catalysts can shift odds in this market before the tournament concludes. Roster announcements, player transfers, or surprise injuries to key competitors will likely trigger sharp price moves. Preseason performance, scrim results, and analyst commentary can also sway trader sentiment. Once the championship begins, each match outcome narrows the field and reshapes probabilities for remaining contenders. Unexpected upsets or dominant performances by underdogs often create the largest swings. Monitor team news and early tournament results closely, as this market reacts quickly to new information.
