Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price outcomes differently. Sportsbooks set odds based on their risk management and margin targets, while this market reflects the aggregated beliefs of independent traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. Prediction markets often incorporate real-time information faster than sportsbooks update their lines, and they typically carry lower margins. However, sportsbook odds may reflect sharper professional betting syndicates, whereas prediction markets can be influenced by retail trader sentiment. Comparing both sources gives you a fuller picture of where consensus lies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome's price reflects the ratio of capital allocated to it relative to the total pool. As traders buy or sell shares, the price adjusts continuously. Higher trading volume typically narrows spreads and improves price precision. You can enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes, and your execution price depends on the current pool state and order size.
Key catalysts include roster announcements, player injuries or substitutions, and recent tournament results from competing teams. Patch changes to Dota 2 that alter game balance can shift perceived team strength. Odds will also react to betting volume surges, which often signal sharp money or insider sentiment. Head-to-head matchup outcomes during the tournament will be major price drivers, as will any upsets or dominant performances. Media coverage and analyst predictions can amplify retail trader interest and move prices accordingly.
