Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small number of professional oddsmakers, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs about the outcome. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before a significant amount of trading occurs. Comparing these odds can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, though it's important to remember they represent different types of information and methodologies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in different outcomes. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven by supply and demand, meaning that if more people believe Bruno Fernandez will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice-versa.
