Sportsbooks set their lines based on models and risk management, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when public sentiment strongly favors a particular outcome. Analyzing these differences can reveal insights into where the crowd believes sportsbooks might be mispricing the probability of various results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular result, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust its predictions as the event approaches. The current volume demonstrates the level of interest and conviction behind each possible outcome.
