Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price events differently. Sportsbooks apply fixed margins and employ professional oddsmakers, while prediction markets derive prices from real-time trader activity and collective intelligence. This market reflects what thousands of participants believe will happen, often incorporating information faster than traditional venues update their lines. Comparing this market's odds to major sportsbooks can reveal gaps in how different communities assess the match outcome. Prediction market prices tend to be more dynamic and responsive to breaking news or shifting conditions.
On Polymarket, traders set the price by buying and selling shares that represent the outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price reflects the collective belief of all participants at any given moment, with each trade updating the odds in real time. Liquidity and trading volume influence how quickly prices adjust to new information. As the match approaches and unfolds, the price converges toward either extreme (near 0 or 100) based on the likelihood of the event occurring. This mechanism ensures that the market price remains a live, crowd-sourced probability estimate.
