Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets like this one are driven purely by trader belief and financial risk. Prediction markets typically incorporate real-time information more fluidly and can shift rapidly as new data emerges, whereas sportsbooks adjust more cautiously to avoid sharp action. For this event, comparing the implied probability here to published sportsbook lines can reveal where the crowd sees edge or mispricing.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The cost to buy a share reflects the current implied probability; as more capital flows toward a particular batter, that player's price rises and others fall. Liquidity and trading volume directly influence how quickly prices respond to new information, so deeper pools allow for tighter spreads and faster execution. Your entry and exit prices depend on the pool depth at the moment of trade.
