Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. Often, prediction markets can be more accurate than traditional forecasts, especially when there is a lot of information available and active trading. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities and are subject to change based on new information and market dynamics.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of the traders on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and responsive assessment of the game’s potential results.
